Dr William J. Walsh

Founder and President - Walsh Research Institute

Dr William walshWilliam J. Walsh is a scientist with more than 30 years of research experience. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1958, he went on to earn a masters degree at the University of Michigan and a doctorate in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.

Before founding the Health Research Institute in 1982, the Pfeiffer Treatment Center in 1989, and the Walsh Research Institute in 2008, Dr. Walsh worked for some of the most prestigious scientific institutions in the country, including: Institute for Atomic Research (Ames, IA); Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (Los Alamos, NM); University of Michigan Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI); Savannah River, (Aiken, SC); and Argonne National Laboratory (Lemont, IL). Dr. Walsh spent 22 years as a researcher in nuclear fuels and environmental sciences.

Dr. Walsh's interest in biochemical disorders began as a result of volunteer work with inmates at the Stateville Penitentiary in Joliet, IL, where he organized the Prisoner Assistance Program that included more than 100 volunteers. United Way named him "Prison Volunteer of the Year of Metropolitan Chicago" in 1983. This work led Dr. Walsh to initiate scientific research that identified biochemical predispositions to violent behavior.

Over the next 30 years, he developed biochemical-treatment protocols for patients with behavior disorders, ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's Disease that are used by doctors throughout the world. He has collected a database of more than 2.5 million chemical assays from 30,000 patients he evaluated over the years and developed chemical classifications and individualized biochemical treatments for these medical disorders. Recently Dr. Walsh established an International Physician-Training Program that has provided biochemical therapy techniques to more than 100 physicians in Australia, Norway, Ireland, and other countries.

Dr. Walsh has authored more than 200 scientific articles and reports and has five patents. He has presented his research findings at the American Psychiatric Association, the U.S. Senate, the office of the U.S. Surgeon General, the Society of Neuroscience, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and the National Institutes of Mental Health. He has been a speaker at 28 international conferences, and has appeared on numerous national TV and radio programs. Dr. Walsh presently serves as President of the Walsh Research Institute.
