William J. Walsh, PhD, FACN, president of the non-profit Walsh Research Institute, is an internationally recognized expert in abnormal biochemistry associated with impaired brain function and a key scientist paving the way for advanced drug-free therapies for mental disorders.
Over the past 30 years, Dr. Walsh has developed biochemical treatments for patients diagnosed with behavioral disorders, ADHD, autism, clinical depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease that are used by doctors throughout the world.
He has designed nutritional programs for Olympic athletes, NBA players, major league baseball players, a heavyweight boxing champion, PGA and LPGA golfers, and others. His book, Nutrient Power: Heal Your Biochemistry and Heal Your Brain, describes his advanced system for correcting body chemistry imbalances that alter mental function

Global Education & Clinical Impact
In addition to Dr. Walsh’s ongoing research studies, he has led medical practitioner training programs in advanced, drug-free biochemical/epigenetic therapies in Australia, Ireland, Norway, Japan, and the United States. To date, Dr. Walsh has trained more than 1,200 practitioners from 80+ countries, and his drug-free protocols have been prescribed to an estimated 1.5 million patients diagnosed with a mental illness.
Dr. Walsh has been a speaker at more than 40 international conferences and symposiums. He has presented his scientific research and clinical protocols at major USA venues including the American Psychiatric Association, the Society for Neuroscience, the U.S. Senate, and the National Institutes of Mental Health. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and scientific reports, as well as been granted five patents.

Scientific Career
Dr. Walsh’s varied career began at age 22 as a nuclear scientist with a major discovery at Savannah River’s top-secret hydrogen bomb facility, which attracted the interest of the Pentagon and leading researchers. He later received his PhD in Chemical Engineering while working at Iowa State’s Ames Laboratory and Institute for Atomic Research. While a visiting scientist at Los Alamos, he designed a novel plutonium experiment that provided key information to physicists working on H-bomb development. He became disillusioned with weapons research, and he left that field and became lead experimentalist for research at Argonne National Laboratory aimed at recovering valuable plutonium and uranium from power reactor spent fuels.
Dr. Walsh also briefly directed Argonne’s electrochemistry program, where he designed and patented the world’s most powerful rechargeable battery cell, and for this he received a national IRB award as one of America’s most important technical achievements of the year. This early lithium battery cell led to a major increase in electric vehicle funding by the Department of Energy. While at Argonne, he began personal research studying brain chemistry abnormalities in violent criminals at Stateville Correctional Center.

Research in Criminal Behavior
Dr. Walsh continued this research when he left Argonne in 1986 to found the non-profit Health Research Institute, and he devoted 18 years to scientific studies of criminal behavior. He organized the “Prisoner Assistance Program” which attracted more than 120 volunteers, and he also directed an ex-offender project aimed at crime prevention. For this work, Dr. Walsh was named “Prison Volunteer of the Year for Metropolitan Chicago” in 1981.
He eventually developed the world’s largest chemistry database for violent criminals that included Charles Manson, Henry Lee Lucas, Richard Speck, and other notables. He became a forensics expert and assisted coroners, medical examiners, Scotland Yard, and police departments studying abnormal chemistry in serial killers and mass murderers.

Beethoven Research ProjectDr. Walsh also served as Director of the Beethoven Research Project, leading a multidisciplinary team that studied skull fragments, hair samples, and other authenticated relics of the renowned composer.
Working with scientists at Argonne National Laboratory's Advanced Photon Source (APS), the team discovered compelling evidence that Beethoven suffered from severe lead poisoning - a landmark finding that received international media attention and reshaped understanding of the composer's severe health problems including deafness. |
Partnership with Dr. Carl Pfeiffer
Working with the eminent Dr. Carl Pfeiffer (Princeton, NJ), Dr. Walsh developed drug-free therapies for correcting metal-metabolism, methylation, oxidative stress, and other chemical imbalances associated with behavior disorders. Dr. Walsh presented experimental evidence of treatment effectiveness at the US Senate, the Surgeon General, and to Correction Departments in California and Illinois, but was unsuccessful in obtaining funds for double-blind, controlled studies. In 1989 he founded the Pfeiffer Treatment Center in Illinois that eventually treated more than 30,000 patients and collected massive chemical databases for behavior disorders, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
